INFILTRATION BID FOILED IN MACHHAL SECTOR, KUPWARA

AADIL AKBAR KUPWARA Successful execution of Operation SHIKANJA, coincides with the momentous date in 1947 when Indian Army led by Infantry landed at Srinagar to protect the men, women and children of Kashmir from the invaders who came from Pakistan. Based on specific intelligence input provided by Kupwara Police regarding infiltration attempt by a group of Foreign Terrorists, a Joint Operation was launched by Rashtriya Rifle troops of Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Machhal Sector along the Line of Control on the night of 25/26 Oct 2023. Multiple ambushes were laid by security forces ahead of the Anti-Infiltration fence along the Line of Control. The area is thickly forested with dense foliage. Taking advantage of difficult terrain and dense vegetation, a group of five terrorists infiltrated from across the Line of Control. At around 1010 hours on 26 October, the infiltrating terrorists were intercepted by alert troops. The terrorist opened fire and attempted to flee. In the intense fire fight that ensued and continued through the day, Rashtriya Rifle troops employed modern surveillance devices and quadcopters to locate the terrorists in the difficult terrain. Conduct of deliberate tactical operations finally led to elimination of Five terrorists. Large quantities of War like stores including Five AK series rifles have been recovered from the killed terrorists. The operation has once again established the inimical designs of terrorists supported by Pakistan and their efforts to infiltrate into Kashmir, orchestrate incidents and spread terror with a view to disrupt the hard earned peace and tranquility in the region. The security forces in complete synergy are committed to defeat such attempts of the enemy with resolute and steadfast commitment.
