Army in its untiring and unceasing efforts to integrate the local youth with the mainstream and to enhance the sporting culture in the valley, Baramulla Football League 2019 was conducted by Rashtriya Rifles Battalion of Himalayan Brigade under the aegis of Dagger Division. The eight days long grueling tournament witnessed participation of eighteen teams from various parts of Baramulla district which was divided into two pools of nine teams each. More than 500 youth took part in the competition besides the spectators, conducting and support staff. Baramulla Football League was played in four stages namely, League, quarter- finals, semi-finals and the grand finale from 22 July to 29 July 2019. The final was played between SW FC v/s Sober United at Showkat Ali Stadium, Baramulla. The final match witnessed a massive civilians turnout from the Baramulla district, prominent personalities from civil & district administration and senior Army and Police officers. Speaking on the occasion, Brigadier Girish Kalia, Commander, Himalayan Brigade emphasised on Army's continued efforts towards building bridges with Awarm, nurturing sport culture and identifying young talent amongst the youth of the valley. The annual sporting extravaganza provides a huge platform to the young budding sportsmen to showcase their talent and to prepare them for their future prospects. After the match, prize distribution ceremony was held in which trophy and awards were distributed by Brigadier Girish Kalia, Commander, Himalayan Brigade to both the teams. This event also provides platform for interaction of prominent persons of Baramulla district with Brigadier Girish Kalia, Commander, Himalayan Brigade. The tournament also generated a feeling of nationalism among the youth and motivated them to stay in the national mainstream, thereby improving the overall sit in the district. Such a tournament has indeed helped the army in projecting a humane face and also reviving the dying sports culture in the region.
